If you can type emails/Word documents and use formatting buttons to bold, italic, underscore, do bullets/numbers, etc ... you're already a whiz at wiki editing!
It's so easy!!
It's as easy as 1-2-3.
(You can actually make your own edits to your RAOGK listing/description faster than it would take you to send an email to RAOGK. Of course, if you don't want to make your own edits, you can still contact RAOGK.
If you're logged in, at the bottom of your screen you will see a brown bar with options for:
My contributions -- provides links to pages you've added to, modified, etc
Follow -- links to pages you are Following
Customize -- change your settings
Other options as a RAOGK account member: Instead of having an email link for your contact info and descriiption of services, your link can be to your user Message Wall and people can leave their research requests on the Message Wall(vs. sending you an email).
Navigation Tips, etc.
Quickly go to a page by typing the page name in the search box and either click the magnifying glass icon or press the Enter key. If you type slowly or it's a long name, you may very soon see the page you want in an "autocomplete" menu below the box; click that!
Quickly go to your User Page by clicking your Username in the upper right corner of the screen.
Discuss any aspect of the site and ask questions at the Forum, or on an article's "Talk" page, or by leaving a comment at the bottom of any page. (The Talk page button is at the top of each page.)
Be sure to sign and date your contributions on forum or talk pages, so that readers know "whom to talk to" and whether your message is probably still of current interest. One of the blue buttons above the edit box prints your signature with timestamp in one click.
Could you please send me your email info to RAOGK ?
I will use your email information only to communicate to wiki members. A mass email is easier than posting on each individual's Message Wall
(The wiki probably has a mass alert feature, but I just haven't discovered it yet.)
Please let me know your username for the wiki account
Please let me know if you're a Researcher or Volunteer
If you're a volunteer, please let me know:
the country or state you volunteer for ... and the county or province.
a description of your volunteer services
(With the volunteer info above, I can activate a link for you on the appropriate wiki page.)
I know I'll need to make a "mass email" periodically and don't want anyone to miss the news.
Hello, I am new to Wikia, but was with RAGOK for a few years in my small home town. It feels good to be back ! Hello to all. I am Joni, I am looking for a business name of a restaurant my father and mother owned for a short time in the Palo Alto, CA area in the late 1960's - definitely 1969, and into the early 1970's. It was sold by 1972. I thought the name was "Los Altos Inn Restaurant and Bar" but as a teen, I could be wrong ! There was an inn behind it, and it looked rather like a Lyon's style restaurant with a little bara to the side. I don't believe it was actally located in Los Altos, but a Santa Clara, Co. telephone book of that area (Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Los Altos, Mt. View) might be very helpful. I hope someone is able to reference this ! It might be good to use the "yellow pages" under restaurants, just in case my naming it is wrong. Thanks anyone for your assistance. Now I need to find out how I can volunteer with obits in my area !
I am hoping someone can direct me on a good way to find my father's restaurant that he and my mother owned for about 2-3 years in Santa Clara County, CA. I tried to use a "Google" search for old telephone books, and did not find that available online. The two historical societies in the area don't help individuals with business names and suggest I visit and search old telephone books but it is a 4 hour drive each way for me now. Any ideas are most welcome; I have been working on this for about 10 days to no avail. Thanks so much. Joni
If your a member of Ancestry they have many City Directory listings for many states. By putting in a search for your fathers name then chosing to search under Schools, Directories and Church records it will give you listings for Public Directries with that name. Many will have scanned photos of the directory page and not all are just residences. I have found business owned by family members this way.though often it does not give the exact name of the business.
